Disaster Management in Tropical Areas Affected by Climate Change
Disaster management is defined as preparedness, response and recovery in order to lessen the impact of disasters, and the management of resources in order to deal with different aspects of emergencies. The Earth's climate is constantly changing, which is usually associated with global warming. The impact of the change imposed disastrous threats on the safety of human lives. Countries in tropical areas have been the special group which is facing the most severe problem caused by climate change. Since a big part of their residents live on natural resources, climate change became a greater threat to their livelihood. How can this committee provide help to those "climate victims"? How can we offer the most efficient disaster management to minimize the damage? This year in SPECPOL, it is our chance to solve these problems.

Meet the Dais
Hello delegates, my name is Vivian Chou. It's my pleasure and honor to serve as your chair in ECOSOC, 2014 HSMUN. I'm currently a sophomore majoring in Finance studying in National Taiwan University, and also the deputy of Academics in National Taiwan University Model United Nations. I believe that it might be your first time joining in MUN conference through your whole lives, so you are probably very nervous and don't know whether you can do it well. However, the only thing I want to tell you here is very simple: try and learn. If you don't try, you never learn. I still remember how panicked I was when I was on the podium and in front of the microphone while all the others staring at me, waiting for me to say something in my first MUN conference. As I tried again and again, I became more and more confident and gained lots of knowledge and experience. One of the most important things I learned from MUN is the ability of critical thinking. Words come out from your mouth have real content which is worth being discussed, and others are willing to hear from you since you know how to think. It's just really amazing! Therefore I want all of you to have the chance to experience it. I hope you will create your own wonderful memories in HSMUN and learn a lot with tons of fun! Can't wait to meet all of you!

Hey everyone! I'm Joanna Liu, currently a freshman majoring in International Business at National Taiwan University. I embarked on this MUN journey not too long ago and I honestly just fell in love with it. Living in the US for most of my life, my values, thoughts, and actions changed tremendously. It has truly opened my eyes to all the problems the world is facing. In MUN, you get to learn about worldly issues and be exposed to all kinds of different ideas. It will allow you to develop useful skills, confidence, and a chance to meet lifelong friends. Work hard and play hard! See you all soon.
My name is Kimberly, currently a freshman
majoring in foreign languages and literatures. I am really easy-going, so don't
be afraid of getting along with me~ I love dancing, especially Locking and
ball-room dance. I love listening to music, and James Blunt's " you're
beautiful" always makes me cry. I love traveling, and I've currently
travelled almost 15 countries. Taking part in NTUMUN is a breakthrough in my
life. Because of it, I am so lucky to meet different kinds of people and become
friends. To me, the memories with them are very invaluable. Apart from that, I
also learn much knowledge on international relations, which provides me new
perspectives in life. What's more, on behalf of NTU, we even have the
opportunity to attend international MUN conferences such as NMUN and WMUN. With
all these great experiences, I would say joining in NTUMUN is definitely a
splendid adventure. In HSMUN, we are eager to make you experience the magic
power of MUN, too. Get ready and rock the conference!
Hey kids, to begin with, I'm a
extraordinarily attractive woman. Not just with my looks, but my intelligence
and sensitiveness and compassion and all the other amazing traits. I know You
had probably notice my fantastic glow just from the glimpse of my picture
there.
Anyway, I’m a fun person and I… hm… Oh boy, I am good at many things. I skate, I swim, I twit, I think (as in the “Je pense donc je suis, I’m a living philosopher), I dance, I sing, I twirl, I twerk, I twit…… You know you will love me once you meet me. Don’t hesitate to do so! Because if you don’t do so you know you’ll be regretting for the rest of your life for not getting to know the fabulous girl!!!!! GO MUN! Hello delegates! My name is Coco Tyan, and I’m currently a rising sophomore studying Political Science at National Taiwan University. I went to elementary school in New Jersey, but have spent most of my life in the beautiful city of Taipei. I first came into contact with Model UN in my freshman year of college, and have loved it ever since. MUN is fun in the way that it challenges participants to put themselves into the shoes of diplomats from all over the world, and during the composition of draft resolutions, lessons of negotiation, cooperation, and leadership are learnt. This year’s HSMUN will be very exciting, and I hope you’re all ready to immerse yourselves in international politics! |
